The work of the Contemporary has provided a habitability to arid regions, including space and the deserts across the globe. The work of Los Angeles Design introduced a new model of revival with Modernism, to the desert of California, now embellished by the Ehrlich’s “print” out there. Cultural phenomenon like Dubai and now Saudi Arabia revealed a critical path for engineered Architectural perfection in the previously extreme environments, thanks to solar energy’s pure electrical conversion (and their Barakah nuclear station). Will high density solutions solve renewable resource for places like Africa via the adjacency of the engineered mega cities, like the Line? Architectural work in Net Zero or Net Positive has shaped the global ability of resource consumption, which now includes the ability to restore the global forest canopy via Sustainable Design. The work of honored Architect Charles Munger can demonstrate a true choice for the desert (or coastal adjacency): critical density. Short of “SM, M, L, XL” issuing another superblock model or boot, the answer is clearly rooted in the ecology of a usable system adjacent to natural ecological systems. For example, the work of BIG in the forest reserves of the Himalayan watershed choosing bamboo or valchromat instead of traditional lumber can increase the renewability or life cycle in the embodied energy of the sacred work; so, for the desert, magnetic bearing chillers providing a base load for a high density solutions, perhaps adjacent to the walking street of Palm Springs, sheds a critical cost and key benefit to lifestyle. The desert has a future with critical attention to use and ability.
